God's Day Off by John Smale

The world is potentially a great place, yet the world is a foul place thanks to corruption in Goverments, Business and Religion. God's Day Off is a powerful novel that exposes the abuse of power in the Western World.

The church, supposedly the mainstay of 'civilisation', has blackmailed its congregation into submission by threat. It has gone against God, the essence of life. The Creator made the world in a metaphorical six days and rested on the seventh. Maybe, man was left in charge and is absconding with the wealth of beauty we have for money and power.

Beware, The eighth day is fast approaching. Godfrey, the book's main character is a middle aged cynic who goes on holiday with his family to a camp site near Venice. He is stalked by Annan, a seemingly wise man, a modern shaman, who has a seemingly corrupt, yet an altruistic agenda.

This book compares the lack of spirituality in Christianity with the total spiritual concept of shamanism. It is a metaphor for the need for a philosophy of good against the problems the modern world has with enforced prostitution for sex, corrupt politics and the hidden sins of the Church. In the setting of modern beaches Godfrey gets embroiled in sexual encounters and sees through the church's lust for money.

In the end Godfrey learns a dreadful secret too good to give away in a preview. Read this this book at your peril.

It will change your life...for the better.
